Josh Duhon wasn't feeling confident when he went to read for the role of Logan Hayes on General Hospital. ''I'd auditioned for every soap on television before that at least twice, and I'd never even gotten a callback for General Hospital,'' says Duhon, whose success rate had been a big fat zero, except for a short stint on Passions.

It turned out that the third time was the charm for Duhon and General Hospital. The show's brass not only called Duhon back but they promptly signed him to a contract to portray young rebel Logan. Duhon attributes it to really connecting with the part.

''They read a lot of people for Logan, like 500,'' Duhon says. ``They were looking for a guy who was young, had a real edge and a presence to him. Because of my family background, I understood who Logan was. I understood that this guy was tough, but he was also extremely vulnerable. He could be smiling on the outside, but he was hurting on the inside.''

Born and raised in Texas, Duhon was in college working toward a finance degree when his future suddenly took a detour.

''I went on an audition for a Sprite commercial, my very first one, and booked it,'' recounts Duhon, who shot the spot with Dirk Nowitzki of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. ``For three days, I drank Sprite, played basketball and made a ton of money. When it was over, I thought there might be something to this acting thing.''

Duhon enrolled in an acting class, booked another commercial and earned his SAG card all without leaving home. He did, however, ultimately make the move to Los Angeles to pursue his budding career, although his heart still belongs to Texas.

But Duhon will be staying put, especially while things in Port Charles continue to thrive. He mow finds himself in the middle of the show's hottest triangle: Logan, Lulu and Johnny. ''Logan has decided Lulu is the girl for him,'' Duhon says. 'Now he's questioning, `Does she really like this other guy?' Logan's no idiot. That's entered his mind, and he's asked Lulu about Johnny. Now he's just waiting to see what she does.''
